Tiffany Henyard, former mayor of Dolton, Illinois, announced that she is officially running as a Republican for the District 5 seat on the Fulton County Board of Commissioners, marking a shift into Georgia politics following her tenure in Illinois local government.
“This wasn’t an easy decision for me. It came with prayer, reflection, and a deep search within my heart. I chose to stand. I chose to walk in truth, even when it wasn’t easy,” she said.
Henyard previously served as mayor of Dolton, Illinois, and as supervisor of Thornton Township, Illinois from 2022 to 2025. She also served two terms as a member of the Dolton Village Board of Trustees from 2013 to 2021.
Her entry into the Fulton County race marks her first bid for office in Georgia.
Fulton County District 5 covers portions of south Fulton County, including areas such as South Fulton and Union City. The district has seen population growth in recent years, increasing demand for infrastructure improvements, public safety services, and other county resources, according to local government data and reporting from Fox 5 Atlanta.
Fulton County is among the most populous counties in Georgia, with more than one million residents, according to U.S. Census Bureau data. District 5 includes a mix of suburban and urban communities, and county commission members oversee budgeting and policy decisions affecting county services and development.
Before her time in Illinois local government, Henyard served as mayor of Dolton, where she focused on community initiatives, according to Illinois news archives. She was the first Black woman elected to the position. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration, graduating summa cum laude from Robert Morris University.
