A second Sip & Savor cafe appears to have closed in the South Loop, according to local residents. The location at 31 E. Roosevelt Road has reportedly been empty for several weeks. This follows the closure of another Sip & Savor outpost inside the Rosenwald Apartments in December.

Owner Trez Pugh was not available for comment regarding the recent closure.

Sip & Savor’s South Loop branch opened in June 2023, taking over a space previously occupied by Starbucks. Pugh marked the occasion with a short video posted on social media. Although there has been no official statement and no signage at the business indicating it is closed, the South Loop location is no longer listed on Sip & Savor’s website, and its interior appears to be cleared out.

The chain’s flagship Bronzeville location and the Rosenwald Apartments branch were among several Black-owned cafes targeted by theft last fall, which led to community support efforts from other business owners such as Early Walker, who organized a coffee giveaway event.

Stan’s Donuts also closed its nearby storefront at 26 E. Roosevelt Rd. in October, making Sip & Savor the second cafe in recent months to leave the Roosevelt Road corridor.

Sip & Savor continues to operate locations in Bronzeville, Hyde Park, and Edgewater.
