A 34-year-old man was shot and killed in West Town early Saturday, according to police on Mar. 15. The incident occurred around 12:40 a.m. when the man was standing in an alley near Ohio Street and Marshfield Avenue.

Police said the victim was shot multiple times before being transported to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities have not released the man’s identity as of Sunday morning.

Alderman Daniel La Spata said on social media that the victim was unarmed and not from the area. “It was a truly senseless and tragic shooting of an unarmed man from outside the neighborhood, and my heart goes out to the victim and all friends and neighbors impacted by this violence,” La Spata said. “Because the investigation is ongoing, I cannot provide additional details at this time, but I have pledged support for all resources necessary to keep our neighborhood safe.”

Police confirmed that an investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
