Chicago residents gathered Friday to honor the late Rev. Jesse Jackson with a People’s Celebration at the House of Hope, located at 752 E. 114th St. The event drew significant attention due to the attendance of several prominent political figures.

Former presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and Joe Biden were expected to attend and speak at the ceremony. Former Vice President Kamala Harris and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker were also listed among those scheduled to deliver remarks.

The People’s Celebration is anticipated to be the largest event commemorating Jackson since his death on February 17 at age 84. Upon the arrival of Jackson’s family, about two-thirds of the venue’s 10,000 seats were occupied as the service began at 11 a.m.

The House of Hope auditorium provided space for thousands to pay their respects and participate in remembering Jackson’s legacy.
