This week, Northwestern University is hosting a series of events for students, faculty, and the wider community from February 4 to 10.

On Wednesday, February 4, Nicole Spigner from the Weinberg College will lead “The Salon” at Dittmar Memorial Gallery in Norris University Center. The session focuses on contemplative practices and discusses how politics, mindfulness, and spiritual activities intersect within and outside academic settings. Community members are invited to participate in group mindfulness exercises.

Also on February 4, a special screening of “Discovering Catharine” will be held at the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. The documentary highlights Catharine Waugh McCulloch’s life as an attorney and suffrage leader who was among the first women to graduate from what is now Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. After the screening, there will be a panel discussion with experienced attorneys.

On Thursday, February 5, Dr. John Franklin from Feinberg School of Medicine will present a Montgomery Lecture titled “Secrets of a ‘God committee.’” He will share insights from his 35 years on transplant selection committees, focusing on psychological and ethical challenges involved in these decisions.

Saturday, February 7 marks the opening of Teresa Montoya’s exhibition “Tó Łitso (Yellow Water): Ten Years after the Gold King Mine Spill” at The Block Museum of Art. Montoya will deliver a keynote address discussing her photographic work and ethical issues related to documenting environmental disasters affecting Indigenous lands.

On Monday, February 9, Sam Bailey—an Emmy-nominated writer, producer, and director—will speak about her professional journey at an event hosted by Northwestern’s master’s program in leadership for creative enterprises. This talk takes place in Frances Searle Building.

That evening at Ryan Fieldhouse, Northwestern women’s lacrosse team returns for its first home game of the season against Colorado after making its third straight appearance in last year’s NCAA finals.

All events are open to the public with some requiring registration or tickets.
