Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced on Mar. 13 that Adam Hurley, a resident of Jerseyville, Illinois, has been charged with ten counts of possessing child sexual abuse material. The charges are Class 2 felonies and each carries a potential sentence of up to seven years in prison. Hurley is currently being held at the Jersey County Jail, with his next court appearance scheduled for March 17.

The case is part of ongoing efforts by Raoul’s office to address online child exploitation in collaboration with federal and local law enforcement agencies. Raoul said, “My office’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force will continue to partner with state and local law enforcement agencies to find and stop individuals who exploit minors. Survivors of child exploitation and their families deserve justice for the trauma they have experienced, making it vital we continue to work to hold individuals who trade and download these heinous images and videos accountable.”

Investigators from the Attorney General’s office and officers from the Jerseyville Police Department searched Hurley’s residence last Thursday, leading to his arrest after evidence was found. Hurley is employed by the Jerseyville Public Library. Authorities are asking anyone with additional information to contact Special Investigator Larry Rayburn at 217-843-0350. The prosecution will be handled jointly by Raoul’s office and Jersey County State’s Attorney Ben Goetten.
