Columbia College Chicago has introduced two new online graduate programs aimed at working professionals and entrepreneurs. The Master of Arts in Screenwriting and Development, offered through the School of Film and Television, is designed to prepare writers for careers in film, television, and digital media. The program is delivered online with an optional immersive session in Los Angeles each January. Students will work on narrative structure, genre, adaptation, and cross-platform storytelling while developing a portfolio that includes feature scripts and television pilots.

Courses are led by faculty who are award-winning writers, producers, and storytellers as well as industry professionals from major media hubs. Graduates can pursue roles such as screenwriters for film or television, development executives, story editors, script consultants, or digital content creators.

The second program is the Master of Arts in Global Beauty Management from the School of Fashion. This degree addresses the growing global beauty industry, which is valued between $200 billion and $500 billion worldwide. Columbia College Chicago is among the few institutions offering a graduate-level degree focused specifically on beauty management.

This program targets those seeking leadership positions within the beauty and personal care sectors. It emphasizes sustainability, inclusivity, innovation, and global market strategy. Students have opportunities to connect with international beauty professionals and may participate in short-term residencies abroad lasting one to two weeks. Coursework covers topics like global beauty trends, sustainable organizational management, marketing strategies for beauty brands, and communication within the industry.

Additionally, Columbia offers graduate certificates in Inclusive Beauty Management and Sustainable Beauty Management. These can be completed independently or applied toward the full master’s degree.

Graduates from this program will be prepared for roles such as brand managers or product development managers within the beauty sector as well as positions focusing on sustainability or inclusive marketing.

“Both programs emphasize career readiness through Columbia’s Career Center, alumni network, and industry partnerships, supporting students as they build portfolios, expand professional networks, and advance in competitive creative industries,” according to a statement from Columbia College Chicago.

Applications for both programs are now open.
