City Clerk Anna Valencia announces return of City Sticker Amnesty in April

City Clerk Anna Valencia announced on Mar. 25 that the Office of the City Clerk’s Amnesty Month program will return this April, allowing vehicle owners to purchase a City Sticker without late fees or back charges from April 1 through April 30.

The program aims to help Chicago residents comply with city requirements while easing financial burdens and generating additional revenue for the city.

Valencia said in a video shared on YouTube and Instagram that last year, more than 15,000 drivers obtained their City Stickers during Amnesty Month, bringing in $1.6 million in new revenue for Chicago. “We know people can’t always take time off work to get the services they need. So, this year, we’re expanding access to meet people where they are and give even more drivers the opportunity to come into compliance without late fees or back charges by offering amnesty in person with our three Saturday Mobile City Hall events and online,” Valencia said.

Throughout April, residents can participate by visiting any Office of the City Clerk or Department of Finance location, attending one of three Saturday Mobile City Hall events—scheduled for Orr High School on April 11, Kroc Center on April 18, and Avalon Park on April 25—or using the e-commerce site ezbuy.chicityclerk.com. The Mobile City Hall events will also offer other services such as CityKey IDs and have representatives from both the Department of Finance and Department of Streets and Sanitation present.

Valencia highlighted that all purchases for Amnesty Month must be completed by April 30 to qualify. She encouraged those unable to create an online record before April 17 to visit a location in person instead. “Amnesty Month is an opportunity for residents to catch a break while the City is still able to collect revenue we weren’t getting otherwise,” she said. “As families across Chicago experience financial hardship and the City faces the challenges of the upcoming budget season, creating these win-win opportunities is extremely important.”
