Street sweeping will begin in Chicago on Wednesday, according to a March 30 announcement from the Department of Streets and Sanitation.

The start of the street sweeping season means that temporary parking restrictions will be enforced across city blocks. This is part of an annual effort to clean leaves, litter, and debris from city streets, which typically runs from April through at least the end of November.

Residents are advised to check their blocks for signs indicating when temporary parking restrictions will be in effect due to sweeping. The department said that these signs are posted two days before sweepers arrive, although some blocks have permanent signage regarding the schedule.

To help residents plan ahead, the department noted that people can view the street sweeping schedule online or call 311 for information. Additionally, there is an online map available where residents can watch street sweepers in real time.

The initiative aims to keep Chicago’s streets clean throughout much of the year while minimizing inconvenience by providing advance notice about parking changes.
