The Jackson Park cherry blossoms are in bloom as Chicago prepares for a busy weekend of activities, according to an April 9 announcement. Events range from art exhibitions and music performances to clothing swaps and neighborhood cleanups across the city.
These events offer opportunities for residents and visitors to engage with local culture, support artists, enjoy nature, and participate in community improvement efforts. The variety ensures there is something for all ages and interests throughout the weekend.
Expo Chicago at Navy Pier will feature contemporary art from international galleries, including a special exhibit curated by Louise Bernard inspired by the Obama Presidential Center. The Other Art Fair at Artifact Events brings together over 115 independent artists with works focused on nostalgia themes. Old Irving Brewing will host Della Days Celebration honoring its longest-running beer with specials and souvenir glasses.
Other highlights include a spring clothing swap at the Chicago Fair Trade Museum & Store in Uptown, Lizard’s Liquid Lounge’s farewell concert series in Albany Park, YarnCon’s free yarn vendor festival near West Side, Giordano Dance Chicago’s new season showcase at Harris Theater downtown, as well as theatrical performances like “Cyrano” in Rogers Park and “Once Upon A Rhyme” hip-hop musical in Bronzeville.
Community-focused activities are also planned: Wicker Park will kick off Earth Week with a cleanup event followed by Green Fest featuring sustainable vendors; Humboldt Park Neighborhood Association is organizing a park cleanup; Kilbourn Park offers an edible gardening workshop; Schubas hosts its annual garage sale; Colibri Coffee provides a crochet flower workshop; Central Park Bar holds a fundraiser supporting medical expenses for Logan Square resident Morgan Averill; Yassa African Restaurant presents live jazz from Junta Ensemble; Gilda’s Club organizes an improv fundraiser at iO Theater supporting those impacted by cancer.
